There are some interesting (and amazing) issues when it comes to "supporting the troops" and how it is defined by those who want the troops pulled out of Iraq and those who want them to stay.
Those who want the troops pulled understand that they are in an impossible situation and that the mission, as stated by Dubya, was based on lies and no planning, and continually changing. Those who want them to stay forget there is no military solution to this damnable situation, and forget that the war is based on lies and deceit.
Those who want the troops pulled are veterans of previous wars and, in the case of the House, five of them are veterans of either Afghanistan, Iraq, or both. Many of those who want the troops to stay have NEVER served a day in their lives.
Those who want the troops pulled understand that the troops who have been in-country over these past few years know that our troops are being short-changed and don't have the proper protective equipment or training. Those who want them to stay refuse to acknowledge that our troops don't have the equipment they need or the training to do some of the missions they have been tasked with accomplishing.
Those who want the troops pulled know that while Dubya has said he will listen to the commanders on the ground that he hasn't DONE so. Those who want the troops to stay THINK they know more than the military leaders who have been educated and trained in the conduct of warfare.
The bottom line is this: Those who want the troops to stay don't support the troops or the military when they don't support the yellow-bellied chickenhawks' rhetoric. It is impossible to respect yellow-bellied chickenhawks who "cut and run" when it comes to common sense and true patriotism.
I've checked up on the backgrounds of some of the neocons who blather, drool and foam at the mouth about staying the course or the "new plan." People like Patrick McHenry, Adam Putnam, Virgil Goode, John Boehner, Mitch McConnell, Brit Hume -- none of them have served their country. If they really believe this war is so "right" (pun intended -- maybe), then they should be waiting at the doors of the recruiting stations when they open in the morning and insist on enlisting as enlisted persons (not the officer corps) in the infantry and insist, like Prince Harry is reported to have done, on being sent to Afghanistan or Iraq immediately.
After all, they support the troops, don't they? Send them to the QM and tell them they don't have protective equipment for them but they're going anyway.
Bet they'd crap in their pants behind that one. And while they're at it, take Bush, Darth, Condi, Dougie Feith, Hadley and the rest of the equally delusional neocons who dreamed up this clusterf*ck.
It's the VERY LEAST they can do to "support" the troops ... live a tour in the troops' combat boots who they really don't give a crap about.

Lieberman's War Tax
Joe Lieberman -- what a pathetic person you are. What's with this "War Tax" you propose? I have a much better idea, Joe.
Instead of trying to squeeze blood from a turnip (although you seem to enjoy advocating people losing blood and, in many cases, their lives), why don't you and sycophant buddies [... tax] your war mongering friends, like Halliburton, Bechtel, KBR, and the oil companies?
Tax the war profiteers -- like Exxon -- they are making record profits and they sure as HELL can afford to drop a few billion to support this war that they are benefiting from in a most profitable way.
You are just as morally sick as the rest of your neocon Republican friends. Spend the money we work hard for to support a war on a country that did not attack us, and then tell us to go to hell when it comes to the needs of those in your own backyard.
I have a GREAT idea -- since you're so gung ho for this war, I propose a War Tax on you and all of you who support this damnable war. And while you're at it, let's take away all of your perks that you have courtesy of us.
Dung beetles have more integrity and honor than the whole pack of you bloodthirsty vultures.

Nucking Futs
Maybe it's just me but it seems this great country, particularly the period of the last six years, has gone to hell in a handbasket because this administration, led by neocons, have embarked upon an ideological approach to government -- when this is supposed to be government based on rule of law -- such as the Constitution. When personal and religious beliefs spearhead the actions of a government it ceases to be a democratic republic and becomes, instead, what amounts to a theocracy.
For the record: I am a registered independent voter and claim no political or ideologic allegiance to either of the two major political parties. I have areas of agreement with conservatives, progressives and libertarian, and a large smattering of ideologies based upon my own experiences, my training (specifically as a former military intelligence analyst), and what I consider to be logic, reason, and common sense.
This blog is dedicated to the memory of my dear, beloved father -- who always encouraged me from time of birth until he died to believe in myself, to dare to dream my dreams and formulate plans of action to achieve these goals, and above all, to be true to myself and be, above all, an independent thinker.
We would frequently discuss world events, philosophy and he taught me HOW to think for myself. Dad for all you gave me and taught me, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
